Subtraction Statement Sums With Borrow
In statement sum we are given a statement. We have to analyse the statement and then take appropriate action.
Following steps are required to solve the statement
1. Read the statement carefully
2. Find the values that are given
3. Find the quantity which is required
4. Then perform the process to reach the desired result.
Let us consider the following example;
Rozy's mother bought 12 apples from the market and she gave 4 apples to Rozy. How many apples are left with Rozy's mother?
1. We will first analyse the statement
2. We will find the values that are given
In the question it is given that
Rozy's mother bought 12 apples from the market and she gave 4 apples to Rozy.
So, No. of apples Rozy's mother bought = 12
No. of apples given to Rozy =4
3. We will find the quantity which is required
In the question it is asked that
How many apples are left with Rozy's mother?
To Find No.of apples left
We will perform subtraction as we are supposed to find the no. of apples left
12 - 4 = ?
We will perform the required operation
On solving we get
Hence the apples left with Rozy's Mother are 8.
Illustration 1: Rahim had 15 notebooks and he gave 8 notebooks to Salim. How many notebooks are left with Rahim?
